My family and I have just returned from a fabulous two weeks in Costa Rica, and we couldn’t recommend it highly enough as a destination, whatever your age. What follows is my tribute to a wonderful country.
Costa Rica is…
A little piece of paradise,
Lush and verdant forests everywhere you look,
A volcanic spine towering above white sand beaches, soft underfoot.
Waking up to the sounds of the jungle,
and going to sleep to them too.
Glimpsing Scarlet Macaws adding a splash of red to the sky, and listening to Toucans call from on high.
Playing in the waves of the Pacific as they complete their epic journey,
Being tossed and turned in white water as you raft down wild rivers.
Relaxing in geo-thermal pools while tropical rainstorms burst overhead,
Zip-lining through the forest canopy and swinging like Tarzan into the void.
Keeping a daily journal of the myriad of creatures spotted, great and small:
Leaf-cutter ants industriously going about their task. ‘Blue jean’ frogs brightening up the forest floor.
Hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower and Green Turtles following nature’s call, driven to lay another clutch of eggs.
Crocodiles lying menacingly on a fallen tree; leviathan Humpback whales nursing their calves, and not forgetting, the indolent sloth, letting others do the hard work while it slumbers on.
A population full of pride for their nation and excited to show it off.
A country that seems to have ‘got it right’.
A reminder of what the world was like and how it can be.
To put it simply…”Pura Vida”
